New Bostik Roll option helps to maintain hygiene at a food processing factory

New Bostik Roll option helps to maintain hygiene at a food processing factory.

Bostik’s new 240mm version of its popular Bostik Roll adhesive tape has been used to tackle a challenging installation at a food production facility in Scarborough. Floorcovers UK used the new wider tape to install vinyl flooring on a staircase in an environment with some of the most stringent health and safety standards.

The solvent-free Bostik Roll is ideal for use in areas with strict health and safety codes, like food preparation areas, thanks to its low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

The double-sided adhesive tape has previously been available in widths of 25mm, 50mm and 85mm, making it suitable for the fast installation of skirting, capping strips, cove formers and other PVC floor or wall-mounted accessories.

With a wider 240mm option now available, it’s an ideal choice for larger areas, such as staircases. Explaining why he felt Bostik Roll was the best solution for the project, Phil Morris from Floorcovers UK said: “Laying vinyl on a staircase can be a tricky and time-consuming job, but when Bostik advised of its new 240mm width adhesive tape, it sounded like the perfect solution.

“The adhesive tape was applied directly to the risers and treads and then the vinyl was laid on top. As the adhesive is dry, there’s no curing time required, which speeds up the installation and ensures the area remains free from any overspill.

“However, installation challenges were not the only consideration on this project. As we were working in a food processing facility, we needed to consider the environmental impacts of using a solvent-based adhesive, particularly in relation to the emission of VOCs. Bostik Roll has a superior environmental performance thanks to its low VOC emissions, making it ideal for these types of projects.”

With an immediate, extra-strong grip and long-life bond, Bostik Roll has EC1 Plus ratings from LEED, as well as BS EN 13999:2007 from BREEAM. It also offers excellent resistance to plasticiser migration, making it particularly suited for use with vinyl and PVC products.

Once the floorcoverings were in place, the stair nosings were installed using the high-strength Sticks Like Turbo adhesive from Bostik brand EVO-STIK.

Supplied in a cartridge, EVO-STIK Sticks Like Turbo is a high performance, fast setting grab adhesive that sets in just 15 minutes. It can be used on almost all building materials and is both weatherproof and water resistant. As it’s solvent-free, it’s also ideal for use in occupied buildings.

Jake Hodder, Area Sales Manager at Bostik who worked closely with Floorcovers UK on this project, added: “Bostik Roll is not only a great product for highly sensitive areas, like food processing environments, but it can also help protect the health and safety of installers using the product. As well as the physical labour involved in floor laying, increasingly installers are becoming more aware of other health implications from working too closely or frequently with solvent-based products. Although these products are generally safe to work with, there are significant health and safety benefits to Bostik Roll.

“The addition of the 240mm width to the range makes it a really versatile product and suitable for larger applications, giving fitters the flexibility to choose the right adhesive for the job.”
